Perfect timing when I saw this! It gave me the basis to make my own and trailer it to the jobsite. Finally finished a long time project. Thank you.
Nothing better than finishing up those longterm projects! Good stuff
I blew the track on my sm100 the first week after I bought it 😂 Luckily it happened in my own backyard.
One week! What a bummer .... I had a suspicion that my tension was getting loose but hadn't really checked it out. It's good to know how to change those tracks now
You have some amazing editing skills!
thanks bro -- I have fun with it :)
Nice work up there boss! I'd like to be a climber someday
I live off grid, and I am considering one of these for my hot water & heating. Where I live gets down to -40f, so for safety I like the “out of the house” heating system. Two questions: How much energy does it take to power the boiler with all the pumps/etc.? And that insulated pex pipe is awesome, I won’t be using half of what you did. How much $$ per foot does that run (generally)? Best video yet. 👍🏼
You're gonna love the system -- tons of great heat as long as you have the wood to burn. To figure out the energy usage you'll have to know how many pumps you'll need: probably just one but it depends on how far you'll be pumping to the house and other strucgtures, and what the rise is UP from the boiler. (The boiler has to be lower than the structures or level to them.) So check out the taco pumps, there are many of them out there people use for boilers, and you'll know how much juice you'll need. And note that most boiler pumps run 24/7 365. You'll have to price the insulated pex locally. This was a few years ago but I think we paid $14/foot. could be even more expensive now. the stuff is amazing though as we have virtually ZERO heat loss over our large runs to our buildings.
Nice, simple design.
I bought a used hand auger after watching your video. It works really well. Thank you!
Good to hear! happy digging
The ground guy was chilling home drinking beer 😜😜 Keep the great work sure 🫡🫡
Yeah you said it -- another day off for that guy :)
Shooting Groundhogs while you are working: That sounds like something out of a Charles Bukowski story! I understand that you have stopped filming...
Good old Bukowski! I haven't thought much about him in years but man oh man does he have some gravelly stories to tell ;) thanks for that allusion
A 22 minute video to chit chat about cooling vests and what he grows in his garden. Bring a lunch if you want to watch the whole thing. Next time make your video last 3 minutes, ok?
Yes Sir! Sir yes Sir! 3 minutes Sir!
@@metaspencer Think about it. 22 minutes doesn't see a little stupid to you?
Well said mate. Its click bait.
You said it mate. Absolutely
Hey Spencer, I appreciate the non dramatic approach. Nice job. Well thought out, planned approach.
Thanks for that. Much appreciated :)
Never commented on your videos, but I think that’s the tallest tree I’ve seen you cut yet 😳
First comment! woohoo! good hearing from ya ... yeah, that tree was waaaaay up there for sure. Good times to be had
The sound made when that last large hunk of tree trunk his the ground actual made me chuckle out loud. It was more than likely me releasing some pent-up anxiety I developed as “we” near the sketchy top! Thanks for your sense of humor and your calm demeanor while facing a challenge.
Always good to get down safely -- gotta love that final thud! Thanks Janet :) Good hearing from ya
Hey Spence nice work You got to try the nano speed cut on that 201. It's a awesome set up
I was running a speed cut nano on one of my little Echo 2511s and it was a ripper -- good idea man. Thanks for the tip
Enjoyed the video. "Danger is my business"! Throwing chains & tracks.....could be dangerous (frustrating for sure). Dodging bullets by zig zagging the skid steer......operator popping up every now and then for a better target.....living la vida loca. Things you will do for a good customer (and hopefully getting extra bucks for the target work). Entertaining video....thanks for sharing.
La vida loca for sure ... gotta be loco some days just to head out there. haha ... good hearing from ya man ... climb safe!
someday watch Otiss Machines from 2 months ago
Ty!! 🤩🎉
good luck out there!
Could you possibly elaborate on the types of wood you bought for the initial posts/the process of graveling and cementing. I want to make sure I allow for drainage. How much did this cost you?
I only use pressure treated posts and the rest of the fence is cedar. Check out my other fence videos and you'll see I premix the concrete before pouring it in the hole. Cost was CHEAP back in the day, but prices have gone up and depend on how long and high you're building
Wow Neo, I didn't realize I clicked on the "MatrixSpencer" channel! 😂 ruclips.net/video/ODmhPsgqGgQ/видео.htmlsi=25DOBI9UurTmKP1m
Pretty amazing how you cut these trees down with such precision, loving watching everything you do (gives me ideas, I love thinking out of the box)
The wind will throw that precision out the window, but it wasn't blowing too much that day ... thanks for tuning in :)
I have one of those trailers, Why not make a larger platform for the trailer (extend it out front and rear)
I think that's the way to go! good idea man
Great stuff man, your living the dream. Incredible view even if you have to dodge a few rounds while doing it. I'll take that over traffic and a boss any day.
You said it man -- always some good and unusual times out there!
Hi, I noticed something: you threw down the small logs (top of the tree) on the side next to the road, then the middle ones to the side, then last the big logs towards the back. I don't think you said something about that. That was smart and good planning: reducing the risk of a big log rolling towards the road. I will have to keep that in mind if the opportunity arises. Cheers
yeah from those heights an unpredictable roll can be a very bad thing ... when I'm on my game I try to make good mattresses down there for the logs, as well as some barricades to keep chunks from getting away. organizing the logs (I learned over time) can save ya some time during cleanup.
@@metaspencer Thanks for your reply and time, and the video (I forgot to say). You replied to many many comments, Aussies would say: You're legend mate! ;)
@@diegovd7215 Legend! Woohoo! thanks for that mate
Haha, when you tally the job- thrown chain, thrown track, shot at. Meh, we survived; guess we’ll do it tomorrow. I’ve had a few times recently where I wanted to sell all my stuff and find something else to do. I was discussing it with another crew and they were like “well yeah- same experience but we’re still gonna get after it tomorrow”
Funny this makes me think of a job I went out to bid today -- in the backyard was a big old maple, half taken down and full of climb lines, pulleys, and rigging blocks. Three nice ropes just hanging in the tree. Turns out the crew bailed half way through the job ... maybe they just threw in the towel and found other jobs?
I really like your company policies. My ground crew is often behind as well. I think the title thing is a slippery slope and totally understand where you're coming from. Seems like the drama gets kicked up a notch for the Tube
It's SizemoreTreeWorks the instagram legend! love you stuff man. You said it about the drama .... all part of the platform.
@@metaspencer 🫡
What types of saws do you have?
Oh man, I've got all kinds of stuff ... but I mainly run Stihl saws and an Echo 2511t ... but I've got a few off-brand saws as well. Still not a husky on board but I kinda want to get one
Danger! Danger! Danger! The rose bush nearly died! Wind! OMG! The wind! Be! Afraid! 😂 Aye. Fear sells. They even do it in nature programs now. Will the desperate baby seal escape the clutches of the deadly killer whale..? Complete with the ominous music. Does my head in. Great job. Safe but not boring. 😁 Great view from the top and ground-crew reliably disappointing as ever.
Gotta watch those baby seals hahahaha! you said it man ... that mentality is everywhere. Thanks for tuning in bro ... always good hearing from you
Hey with the 201 when the chain came off and the chain wouldn’t fit in the bar, run your chain loose so it spins round the bar and gets rid of the burd metal on the bottom of the chain. I always find it useful to do when my chain comes off. Great vid.
I've gotta try that trick! what I've always done takes a ton of time and work: sanding down every burr back in the shop. I'm gonna go try that now as the saw is still where I tossed it in the back of the truck :)
May I ask the size of the flat board resting on the top rail?
I have some specs on this railing for sale on Etsy ... from memory I don't recall the width. Perhaps a 2x6 or 2x8
My kind of chill video.
Chillllll! good to hear man
You were making a difficult job look too easy...your client wanted to disturb you.... to make you work harder for the money..😊..it was supposed to be a hard job for you... in his eyes.
well it all worked out in the end and that tree was a lot of fun! thanks for the support, friend
@metaspencer do yourself a favor and weld on a couple hundred pounds to the bad end for counter balancing. Good luck
Yeah you said it man: good idea and it's all about the counterbalance. Better idea than eating more cheeseburgers :)
My friend I think you need a machine that rhymes with mipper... 🤔🤔🤔..I'm just saying... That's alottttt of work for one person.. You're just a machine...
I was hoping the resident groundhogs would chip this load for me. :) But in all seriousness do you really think changing my whole setup would be worth it? box truck + chipper for the win? I kinda like having everything paid for, ya know, and no chipper maintenance. But you're probably right because you usually are
@@metaspencer My brother in the tree service, the last time I looked we aren't getting any younger 😵💫😵💫.. just saying work smart not hard😁😁
@@carlobernardi1387 these are indisputable facts! hahaha
God bless..stay safe Spencer
good hearing from ya bro
Awesome bro! F**K YEAH - Unicender! I didn't realise you climbed on the Uni, best device ever.
Yeah I switch off between the Uni and rope death runner pro ... the uni is solid and I like the way it grabs now that I've got it matched up with the right rope
@@metaspencer So good! I got some footage this week using my Unicender, I love it so much. The Rope Death Runner Pro haha, no good? I was thinking about the Runner or Akimbo, but I am going for another Unicender.
@@ArcaneArborWolfe I really like the rope runner for trees with a lot of spread and limb walking -- but for me the uni is ideal on a single stem. i guess they all have their pros-and-cons
Great video! Thats a big tree!! I haven't had the chance to take down a pine yet but I look forward to the day I do.
I think you're gonna like the experience ... everything but the gallons of sap
@@metaspencer I can only imagine! The top of that tree looked sketchy! Great work.
Thanks for sharing. That was a great climb.🎉
thanks buddy! always great to see your stuff online
Chinese JUNK!!!
Enjoyed the discussion. I think I'm safer alone, I get that part of the discussion. Being pushed to hurry... that ain't great. Having someone on the ground ... yes... but for me... not always. Been a hobbyist in arborist space for 30 years. RUclips has taught me... thanks for sharing
Sounds like you've found some good ways to work. Stay safe out there
Great video!
Love that self rigging figure eight method!
"it's a wiggler" 😅 sometimes after climbing wigglers all day, I continue to wiggle even when on the ground. 🌀🥴
Sounds like you might be suffering from Post Traumatic Wiggle Syndrome
I know that feeling. It’s bizarre
What kind of truck do you have
I've got a couple of F350s ... I've been pretty happy with them but you know how it is with trucks: they don't run perfectly forever
Big tree, very well done! I’ve had clients do some weird things, getting shot at though, that’s a new one! And you thought climbing and cutting would be the most dangerous things you encountered that day…
maybe the big arborist supply stores should start carrying flak jackets
Do I need to come up there and take over your ground crew for you?
the crew keeps claiming they've got it under control, but I'm not so sure
That was an awesome view and very accurate with where every piece of log fell on the ground! Awesome job! I’m subscribing!
thanks for coming along for the ride!
If you can get the chain back over the tip and lined up mostly in the groove just start the saw and hit the throttle a few times with the chain loose and it will chase the burr off the drivers and settle back into the groove…. Happens all the time slashing and that’s the preferred method of fixing it. Also if you slip a track and need to suck in the idler just put a few short pieces of limb in the valleys between sprocket teeth and use the drive motor to spin them into the track when the grease adjuster is backed out, it’ll force the idler back and give you lots of slack…. I use steel pins on heavy equipment but I’ve used wood also when doing field repairs… Nice job on that tree, I’ve got a few like that to do here in the near future, did it all fit in the trailer in one load?
Four loads on that one, including the logs -- more brush than ya'd think on a tree like that. Thanks for the tip on the chain ... I'll have to try that next time. In this case I couldn't get it in the grooves but I'll shave them down in the shop today. Yeah I used the sticks and it worked pretty well, with some finesse. Good to know that trick! thanks for the tip. I'm thinking I should carry a set of perfect sticks with me just in case it pops off sometime when there are none around
When you are up a tree and uses the wedges to nudge the piece along, do those wedges fall and you have to find them later, or do you remove them at the last moment? Just wondering.
If you look back at this point ruclips.net/video/q7mBaIXsE0I/видео.html ... you'll see that I keep my wedge on a retractable line so when it "falls" it just goes back on my belt.
@@metaspencer Brilliant!
i think I'm going to be using that retractable lanyard idea for my mini wedge!
It’s been working pretty well!
